Tutwoo is a UK online learning and test-preparation site with more than 1,000 courses, from GCSE maths and English to workplace safety, driving theory and English tests for visas. We're building a team of tutors to give our members live one-to-one help.

How it works

  1. Register your interest (done). We'll email you when tutor sign-up opens.
  2. Apply with your subjects, qualifications and experience, and complete our checks (see below).
  3. Set your availability: the days and times you want to teach.
  4. Members book you for 30-minute online sessions. Tutwoo Pro members get one session a month as part of their plan and can book extra sessions.
  5. Teach and get paid: you're paid for every session you deliver.

Pay and what you could earn

These are examples, not a promise of work or income. They assume the same number of sessions every week for 52 weeks, and are before tax and National Insurance. How many sessions you deliver depends on your availability and on learner demand for your subjects, and live tutoring is a new service, so bookings will build up over time.

What you'd need

  • A teaching qualification, or strong evidence of subject expertise and tutoring experience.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or the Disclosure Scotland / Access NI equivalent) if you'll teach anyone under 18.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • A computer with a webcam, a headset and a reliable internet connection, and a quiet, professional space to teach from.
  • Two references.

Questions

When does tutoring start?

Live tutoring opens when Tutwoo launches to the public. Everyone on this list will hear first.

Am I employed by Tutwoo?

We expect tutors to work with us on a self-employed basis, so you would be responsible for your own tax and National Insurance (for example through Self Assessment). The exact terms will be in your tutor agreement.

Can I do this alongside my teaching job?

Yes. You choose your hours, so you can fit sessions around school. Check your employment contract for any rules about outside work.

How many hours do I have to offer?

There's no minimum to register interest. We'll ask about your availability when you apply.

What if a learner doesn't turn up?

Our cancellation and no-show policy will be set out in the tutor agreement before you start.

How will you use my details?

We'll use your name and email only to tell you about tutoring with Tutwoo. You can ask us to delete them at any time by emailing [email protected]. See our privacy policy.
